K-I Lumber & Building Materials headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. The original location of K-I Lumber was in the downtown Louisville area where, in 1932, the first K-I Service Team sold carloads and truckloads of lumber to customers in Kentucky, Indiana, and surrounding states.

In that same year, Walt Freeman, the president of Kentucky-Indiana Lumber Co., was born. He began a life-long involvement in the business that would grow into Kentucky and Indiana's largest lumber company and earn it the HBAL Associate of the Year award and many other honors from the industry it serves.

To better serve lumber dealers in it’s seven state marketing area and customers in metropolitan Louisville, the original "K-I Family" quickly realized they would need a conveniently located distribution yard. In 1946, K-I chose a downtown location at Floyd and Lee Streets, just north of the University of Louisville. 227 E. Lee Street is still in use today due to its central location and proximity to the interstate system.

As the decades passed, this progressive lumber company took a new direction. The Lee Street yard grew to ten acres with indoor and outdoor storage for lumber, plywood, roofing, and building materials, as distribution yards were established in Lexington, Kentucky and Evansville, Indiana.

Since 1932, K-I Lumber & Building Materials has met the needs of dealers, builders, remodelers, and general contractors in our seven state marketing area, growing in size and service to better serve our customers. Our Distribution Yards in Kentucky (Louisville & Lexington) and Indiana (Clarksville & Evansville) are just part of our nationwide network of service.

We have outgrown our name as we now ship to projects nationwide and internationally while still giving the best service possible to our local customers.

Over the years our company has expanded our inventory, manufacturing facilities, and truck fleet to assure our customers that our motto of "Volume-Price-Service Since 1932" works for them.

Sash & Door Company

We currently assemble our own line of quality interior pre-hung doors, pre-hung steel and wood entry systems (including licensed Fire Rated assemblies), and we handle special orders with ease.

Our window selection features over a million dollars of on hand inventory in primed and clad wood double hungs, casements, and patio doors. If vinyl windows meet your needs better, we have a complete line of vinyl windows and patio doors in stock as well.

Truss & Building Components

K-I enjoys one of the finest reputations in this area for professionally designed and built roof and floor truss systems.

We do it all at our company owned and operated facility in Louisville, Lexington and our newest Truss plant in Evansville, Indiana. We deliver our trusses on our own trucks to your jobsite on time and built right the first time!

Wall Panels

In the same building with K-I Truss, our wall panel division adds a whole new dimension to home building and multi-unit projects. Wall panels insure square walls and faster construction while minimizing on-site theft. Our experts will provide you with an easy to follow plan.

Engineered Wood Products

K-I also offers "in house" design of Engineered Wood products featuring TJIJoists, Microllam LVL, Parallam, and GluLam beams.

Custom Millwork & Casework

Our concept is very simple -"IF YOU CAN DREAM IT, WE CAN BUILD IT" - guaranteed! Moldings, entrances, mantels, bookcases, casework, stairs & railings, custom cabinetry, architectural matching- you tell us and we can build it! Oak, poplar, mahogany, redwood, birch, maple, and many other exotic hardwoods are kept on hand waiting to be turned into a one of a kind hand crafted millwork showpiece.

Home Planning Center

Our K-I Home Planning Center on Shelbyville Road in Louisville is an elegant showroom for you, our customer. The Home Planning Center showcases our wide selection of quality Kitchen Cabinets from Quality Cabinets and Woodstar, set in kitchen vignettes that also showcase our countertops. We sell cabinets installed or in the box.
